Disneyland and now Headed East…

Timmy arrived on the 23rd and we all went to dinner for his birthday. Fun time as always!

Happy Heinz BD Brungard!

Thursday was Disney day! Marleigh, Timmy, and I headed out before 8 to get there as the park opened. We had a fun day- it was not at all crowded in the morning and we got to do a few rides although several of the fast passes we had were canceled due to technical difficulties in the park. Marleigh is a Disney expert and so our only goal was to keep up with her. Big Daddy arrived after 1 and we connected with him, did a ride or two and then Tim and Mar headed off to do more rides and exploring at California Adventure while BD and I rode a ride or two, people watched, had a snack, and did some browsing in the shops. It was a good day!

Friday morning we began our trek East, leaving Anaheim around noon and heading towards Las Vegas. We arrived in Vegas around 5 and BD made arrangements for us to stay at the Fam Camp on Nellis AFB. It turns out there are campgrounds on many military installations across the US and they offer reasonable rates for active duty and retirees and their families. It was a nice spot and allowed us to do a grocery run on base where everything is a bit cheaper. Nellis is home of the Thunderbirds, so even though it was Saturday we heard the “sound of freedom” as a couple of the birds took off around 8am while Lilly and I were on our morning walk. I also had a great chat with a 71 year old woman from Littleton who also RVs fulltime. She has 11 children and travels all over the country to see them and her grandchildren. We exchanged information and I hope to stay in touch.

We headed towards Zion NP in the afternoon and stayed at an RV park in Washington, UT just north of St. George.  Although the drive was not a long one, Mar pointed out that we had been in three states in one day-Nevada, Arizona and Utah. We got set up at our campground, unhooked the jeep and headed to Zion NP arriving just in time for a gorgeous sunset.

On Sunday I got up and walked Lilly and then drove back to Zion for some sunrise photos and to get our Passports stamped at the Visitors center. Mar and I have National park Passports and each park we go to we get stamped. It’s really kind of fun, especially since we have now been to so many! On the return to camp Rodita and I found a jeep trail and I was able to kick up some dust and bounce around for a bit in a remote area. My kind of Sunday morning worship. After that we drove from Washington to Panguitch UT which is near Bryce Canyon.

Cold! 23 degrees with a strong wind

Today is Monday and we will make decisions about what happens next. The goal was to be in Denver on Wednesday so Mar could be with her peeps for Halloween. She is certainly missing friends. While Dericka (the RV) is awesome and I love her so much more than Harvey I must admit I am a little intimidated about having her in below freezing temps for over a week. It will be a lot of work to keep pipes and tanks warm and the propane tank filled. When researching online about how to best manage a non-winterized RV in this situation the overall consensus is to go somewhere warm. (Greg, any thoughts or suggestions?) The original plan was to head to Moab today to visit Arches NP and maybe Canyonlands before heading to CO on 70 tomorrow and Wednesday.

Hope everyone has a great week!
