We made it out of Colorado!

Greetings from Hays, Kansas!

That mountain view will be hard to beat! TTFN, Rockies!

We left St. Vrain Tuesday morning amid blue skies and warm temps, ahead of two incoming snow storms. It is a very strange thing to drive by “your exit” off of the highway knowing that you might not be there for 6 months! (I sure hope I packed everything, LOL!) We enjoyed dinner with our friends Brad and Melinda on Saturday night and they recommended a stop in Hays for a great meal at Gellas, so we went and it was yummy! We stayed the night in Hays Tuesday night and traveled east of KC MO on Wednesday, staying at an RV park in Grain Valley, MO. Along the way we texted Darcie to see what was up at Stargate (Marleigh’s former school) and she suggested a Taco place in Topeka for lunch. We enjoyed a taco and “a thing” from Taco Villa and made it to Grain Valley just as it was getting dark. Since I failed to remember where the time zone change occurred, it felt later because it was later! Yesterday’s drive across Kansas was rough- high winds the entire trip. Traveling in a 12.5 foot box towing a Wrangler really tries ones’ nerves! Plus it started raining and one of the window wiper blades disintegrated on the windshield as we were going down the road. I was very glad to get to our home for the evening, and was physically tired from keeping the beast on the road in the winds. We enjoyed leftovers from Gellas for dinner and then I went to find new windshield wipers. Luckily there was an auto parts store less than a mile away, so we fixed that issue relatively easily. We slept fairly well last night under a gentle rain and woke up ready to roll this morning. We pulled out of Grain Valley before 9:30 this morning and I had a much easier drive for the 225 miles to St. Louis. We reserved a spot at an RV resort in downtown St. Louis, within walking distance to the City Museum. We were in St. Louis last summer and stayed across the river in East St. Louis IL but I wanted to try this location for convenience. There is a gate and the park is located across the street from the St.LPD so I feel secure. Lilly and I took a nice walk to a middle school just as the kiddos were getting released and she made some new friends and scored a snack or two.

We had lemon chicken pasta for dinner, searched for a missing remote, tidied and did work this evening and are bedding down for the night. I hear it is snowing it Colorado, but it is in the 60’s here so we are quite comfy (aside from the humidity that is making Mar’s hair frizzy!) . Tomorrow I have a conference call and Marleigh has a live lesson for her on-line school in the morning and then we will walk to the City Museum for the remainder of the day-they are open until midnight tomorrow night!! The City Museum is an unbelievably cool attraction that we visited last summer but did not have enough time to enjoy- so we are back. Thanks for the recommendations Laurie and Darcie!

Taco Villa in Topeka in a windstorm!

We will be in St. Louis until Saturday morning, and then will head out for a location further east…. To Be Determined. This is one of the first times in my life l don’t have a next step. Not sure how I feel about that! We will end up in North Carolina near my sister in Durham next Saturday, but have no specific plans between here and there. Mar is interested in Nashville and Memphis, so those might be stops along the way… Any suggestions are welcomed!

  1. I am overwhelmed by what you are doing but not surprised. Have missed you so much these past years. Nothing at MV has ever been the same but you have been thought about and wished well. Take care and enjoy every day.

    1. Rose! How nice to hear from you! Yes, I have pretty much lost my mind, but we are settling in to this fluid lifestyle of being on the road. I appreciate your kind words about my time at MV. I miss so many of you, but not the ethical chaos. Thanks for keeping up with our adventures. Love, A
